Bones
“Bones is an American drama television series that premiered on the Fox Network on September 13, 2005. The show is a forensics and police procedural in which each episode focuses on an FBI case file concerning the mystery behind human remains brought by FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth to the forensic anthropology team of Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan.” David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel star in the series as Special Agent Booth and Dr. Temperance Brennan respectively. Bones is currently on hiatus due to the pregnancy of Emily Deschanel, but will resume in March and is likely to be renewed for an eighth season.

Production
The TV series Bones was introduced during the pitch season of 2004 by news corporations 20th Century Fox. Series creator Hart Hansen was reluctant to start a procedural show with other shows such as CSI and Law & Order. Hansen met with producer Barry Josephson to discuss the concept of the show. Hansen then wrote the pilot episode. Hansen decided that a good way to make the show different from all the other crime shows was to exclude flashbacks. This was done with the Angelator. This device creates a hologram like 3D image. The Angelator was used to show possible scenarios as to how the victim died and to show the facial reconstructions. Unlike other procedural crime shows Bones uses dark humor and character development. This can be seen with how Temperance Brennan has changed since the first season.
Producer Barry Josephson owned the rights to a documentary on forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs. Reichs is now one of the producers of the series. She also acts as a consultant. Reichs told the writers that other people would move away because of their disgust with her disregard for those around her. This is one of the aspects that ring true in Brennan. In the commentary of the “Pilot” Hansen and Josephson talk about their fears when Reichs first came to set. The character Temperance Brennan is inspired by the life and writing of Reichs. Reichs has said that she views the show as a prequel to the books.

Ecology
Hart Hansen came up with the concept of the Angelator to avoid flashbacks. The Angelator’s images are produced using special effects. The special effects had to be added in after the episode was shot. This presented an issue for the actors. Without the images being present, the actors would have to find a way to have the same eye level. The Angelatron replaced the Angelator in season 5. The new system is a large screen that is very similar to the Angelator. Just like its predecessor the Angelatron displays murder scenarios. The majority of the victims on Bones are skeletonized so identifying them is not easy. Anthropologists use tissue markers and clues from the skulls to reconstruct the face of the victim. The Angelatron can take that information and produce a face with which databases can be searched.
The design of the lab is very different than that of the labs in other crime shows. Most labs are small or enclosed with a lot of walls. The medico-legal lab at the Jeffersonian is very different. The lab has a forensics platform in the center and glass enclosed offices instead of the solid walls. The lab is also shown to have a glass ceiling.
The show is set in Washington D.C. at the fictional Jeffersonian Institute. This presents an issue since the show is shot in California. There have been multiple episodes where Booth and Brennan travel to other cities at the request of the FBI. The only episode that involved traveling was the season four premier which was set in England. The outside scenes of Washington D.C. are shot by a second team. The backgrounds are put in with special effects for outside scenes to make it appear as if the show was really shot in Washington D.C.

Activity
Forensic anthropologist and author Kathy Reichs acts as the inspiration for Bones. She has told the writers about her experiences as an anthropologist. The writers have taken a few of those stories and incorporated them into the show. One of those instances is when Brennan is at the diner talking about the victim with no regard as to those around her. the customers subsequently move away from her in disgust.
Each episode is written in different stages. When John Francis Daley was interviewed about the episode he wrote he spoke about how each character speaks. He said the Brennan speaks in a complicated form. The best way to write her lines is to think of the most complicated way to say something. He also said his character, Dr. Lance Sweets, was the easiest to write because he feels that he knows the character very well.
Table readings and rehearsals are the most important part of making a successful show. Table readings take place before the episode is filmed. The rehearsals are done during breaks. One director made a comment that he was suprised when someone approached him and said that Emily (Deschanel) and David (Boreanaz) wanted to rehearse the next scene during the break.
Distribution
Series creator Hart Hansen was hesitant to write a crime show in today's era of police procedurals. Hansen wrote the pilot anyway and the show has been strong through its 6 seasons. He decided to make the show different be eliminating the need for flash backs and adding as much dark humor and character development as possible. Hansen also added girl time to each episode. This is especially evident in the first and current seasons. Angela and Brennan are best friends and they always have some sort of advice for each other.
The lead male, David Boreanaz, had two successful shows before he was cast in Bones. John Fancis Daley who plays Dr. Sweets was added to the cast in season 4. Jonathan Adams appeared in season 1 as Dr. Goodman. These actors helped get the show going in its early stages. Boreanaz was the name that got the show going. He along with Adams were the two actors that were most known from the relatively young cast.
The series is also available online. The episodes are available on fox.com 8 days after they air on tv. They are also available through Netflix and other News Corp owned forms of media. The current season is also available on Hulu. The past season is also on DVD in the fall.

Socialization
Bones premiered in 2005 on a Tuesday and was moved to Wednesday nights in the winter half of the season. It moved backed to Tuesday at the start of season 3 and to Mondays in the winter of the same season. The show then moved back to wednesday at the start of season 4. In the winter of season 4 the show moved to Thursday where it stayed.
The show also features many pop culture referances. These references are commonly unknown to Brennan. In one episode there was a reference to Britney Spears, who Brennan did not know. Other references include popular movies and slang to make the show amusing. The references also act as a way to show the disconnect between the characters and the real world.

Representation
The whole series was shaped by the pilot episode. The pilot incorporated all of the aspects of Bones that are different from the other crime shows that are on TV. Cast members routinely participate in interviews. They visit late night shows and daytime talk shows during breaks in the season. The main characters in the show go to these interviews, but do not give away any spoilers.
The cast, Hart Hansen, and producer Stephen Nathan all attend the Paley Center and Comic Con panels. The Paley center panel is held in March and is a panel about the end of the season. In general it is the Comic Con of the winter season. Comic Con is a large gathering in the fall before September premieres. At these panels fans can ask questions of the actors and producers. The panels give small hints as to what is to come for the show.

Reception
Bones is not a simple crime show. Working with skeletal remains is harder than working with the bodies that are in most other crime shows. Anthropology is something that not a lot of people know about. The show aims to help people uderstand the study of people. Anthropology has four sub-fields, but only one is portrayed in the series.
Dark humor is used to release the tension and stress with standing of dead bodies. One example is the nicknames that the other scientists try to give the victims before Brennan yells at them. In the pilot the victim was found in a pond and Zach tried to call the girl a soaker only to get a speech from Brennan about how those names are offensive.
Character development is also a huge part of the series. Each character grows through each episode. Brennan is the best evidence for the development. In the beginning of the series she is very close minded. She does not want to have children and is not very good in relationships. Now in season 7 she is pregnant, living with Booth, and is more open. Other characters have changed as well. Booth has gone from the hunky man to the father to be who is a little overprotective. Angela has changed from the goofy young adult to the mature new mother.

Hey Jenna - thanks for posting! It looks good so far - I'll have more detailed comments for you in the next day or two. The Angelator and Angelatron look like a pretty neat alternative to flashbacks - I'm looking forward to reading more. --Ryan
I love the show Bones, so seeing how the television series was actually made is really interesting. I like that you emphasized that the character of Temperance Brennan was based upon the life of Kathy Reichs. I find the idea for Angelator and Angelatron to be a very innovative and creative use of technology. The use of dark humor also separates "Bones" from other crime shows, which is important to the success of the series. I had no idea that the show was actually filmed in California, and I think that you perfectly portrayed how ecology really played a role in the making of this television series. Some criticism I have would be to explain the roles of the different characters that do not play as large of a role, such as Doctor Sweets. Not everyone has seen the television show, so a little background on their activities would be helpful to see how all the characters interact and how that interaction was thought through by the writers. Also, there are a few spelling errors, so make sure you proofread your work! Overall, I think it is a great CHAT map that goes into thorough detail on each of the seven aspects.
Great CHAT map! I love the show Bones and totally agree that it is much different from other crime shows. I loved all of the detail that you put into the descriptions below the slides. You did a good job explaining certain things like Comic Con and the Paley Center panels that your audience might not have been as familiar with. I learned a lot of things about the show that I did not know before reading your project like that the writers plan “girl time” for each episode. I also was not aware that the show was filmed in California, I'm impressed by the work that the crew puts in to make it truly look like the characters are in Washington D.C. I also like that you emphasized the amount of dark humor and character development that the show uses, which is very different from other crime shows that mainly focus on the actual crime that occurred. You also did an excellent job of showing how the set of the show differs from other crime shows in that the rooms are more open with glass walls and ceilings. It is very fascinating to me that Brennan's character is based upon Kathy Reichs and you did a very good job of providing examples of exactly how they incorporate Reichs' real life experiences into the show. I do not have a lot of criticism; you did an excellent job overall. I would recommend that you spell check everything carefully before you publish it as there were a few spelling mistakes. Also it might have been beneficial for you to explain all of the major characters and how they interact and as a team how they balance each other out. This explanation might help people who have not seen the show to better visualize how important the character development is to the show. Overall though I think you did a wonderful job!
I have never heard of the show Bones, but after reading this hub, I am definitely curious! Overall, I though this CHAT map was informative of the text, but with too much emphasis on the plot and characters within the T.V. show. For example, in the production slide, I would have preferred more background regarding the introduction between the producer and the creator and the reason for their collaboration. Also, in the production slide, I was confused about the role of Kathy Reichs and the disdain others held for her. To make this clearer, you could discuss how Hart Henson initially became interested in the research of Reichs. The distribution slide did great characterizing the tentativeness of the creator to produce the show, but I found the description on the cast to be irrelevant to the topic of the slide. You could make this slide more relevant by discussing the DVD distribution instead. Also, the portion in socialization describing the different channels Bones played on could be moved to the distribution section. The reception slide was detailed and informative but did not discuss any relevant themes that the audience might receive. For example, is the show merely for entertainment, or does it have underlying meanings that translate into real life. Overall, I found this hub to be informative about the show Bones, but did not address the question of how the text was translated from the creator to the audience and its intended purpose. To fix this, I suggest having more continuity and transitions from one slide to the next.
Right away your CHAT map caught my attention. I really liked that you gave a description of the show before you started you CHAT map. Even though I have seen the show many times and I watch it all the time, the description would be helpful for people that do not know much about the show. Since I am a fan of the show I know lots about it, however I did learn some interesting things about the background and how the show was created by reading your CHAT map. Your comments are very descripitive and give lots of good information about the show and how it was created. I like that you show how the creator struggled with doing a different type of show compared to CSI. I like how you described every little detail that your readers might not know. I found it very interesting that they do not actually film it in D.C. I acutally found this very surprising since they show scenes of D.C. in some of the episodes. There were a few minor flaws in your CHAT map though. One of the things that immediately turned me off from your map was that there was A LOT of information. I do not think this is a bad thing, but as a scanned through it, it seemed a little overwhelming at first. To fix this you could have made it a little more spread out. Maybe make two slides for one aspect of CHAT so that you split up the information. Overall I think your CHAT map is great and is a really good example for classmates to look at and use as an example to create theirs.
I really enjoy this hub! I liked how much detail you included about the show, I have never seen Bones and I’m glad that you included so much depth. I wish I would have done more of this on my own hub. I liked your explanation of the Angelator, and the complications of this for the actors. I also liked how you included the evolutions of the characters since the pilot. I liked when you included that there was an inspiration for the show. I enjoyed the background choice. Although it was dark I thought that it fit the dark humor aspect of the show very well. I would have liked to see more pictures of the cast and set behind the scenes, these might not of been available, but I felt that some of the pictures were unrelated to the show. This isn’t a huge deal I just felt that as someone that hadn’t seen the show I felt that it was distracting to me. I thought that you could have included more pop culture reference examples from the show, or at least the context of the Britney Spears reference. Also I think that character development fits more into the sub-topic of representation not into reception.
This CHAT map was extremely well written. I have never seen the show Bones but I do watch other crimes shows and I found it interesting that the writers tried to make it unlike other dramas by using not only the Angelator and the Angelatron and also using dark humor. I also find it interesting that the characters are based off of characters in real life and that there is a real life forensic anthropologist as a producer on set that has insight into the kinds of things that the team would actually encounter. I also found it intriguing that there are many pop culture aspects to the show to make it appealing to all age groups. While there is a lot of detail and is very well written I feel as if some of the information is unnecessary such as the many different days that the show moved to and also the details of some of the characters that weren’t necessarily important. I also felt like there was too much information to grasp and that the CHAT map would have been easier to understand if there was less information. Overall this CHAT map was very informative and I now understand that while this show may seem like every other crime drama it actually isn’t. This CHAT map was a great example of each aspect of CHAT and how they flow together and apply to everyday pop culture.
I was very impressed with the detail you included in your CHAT map. I don’t really know much about the show so I was glad to read the information and get to know more about it. I liked how the production talked about when the show started and provided a short summary of the plot basis. I also really enjoyed the activity slide. Knowing the inspiration for the show is very interesting and I liked the fact that the show comes from some real life stories. One thing I found different to your approach was the part about the actors in the distribution. I thought it was an interesting spin because it showed how the actors helped the show take off because they were previously known. With all of the detailed information I wanted to see more intriguing slides. I saw where you were trying to go by making the slides darker but the rest of the details didn’t pop enough to be eye-catching. While some of the pictures worked well I found that some of them lacked emphasis and the slides without pictures became a little dull. I might have helped to pictures to reflect the dark humor rather than make the slide itself dark. Your presentation overall worked really well. The information you chose to represent was very interesting and it drew me in and made me want to watch the show!
This CHAT map is very thorough and well done. I like how you remained consistent with image of each slide. I also thought you did a good job in the explanations, and it shows that you researched and put a lot of work into the slides. The advice I would give you would be to add maybe a few more images to certain slides that a lacking just so the reader can get a visual. I also think that some of the bullet points were a little too vague and could maybe use a little bit more information. Additionally, the explanations were thorough but maybe a little too lengthy and contained maybe too much information that could be cut out. There were also a few grammar and spelling errors that you may want to go back and proof read. For the most part though, I felt this CHAT map was clear and concise and does a good job at explaining how the 7aspects of the CHAT map relate to this television series. With some revisions and tweaking it will be great and although I have never seen this show it makes me want to start watching it!! sounds interesting!

- Presentation Notes
- Citation
The introduction nicely situates the rest of the presentation, and the starting quote is well-chosen. However, you'll want to make it more clear that the quote is from an outside website by using an in-text citation rather than relying solely on the citation at the end fo the text. (Something like "As said on the *Bones* Wiki, '*Bones* is an...'") You'll want to use in-text citations elsewhere as well to show how which research came from which sources, such as differentiating the source of your Production Slide image as opposed to your research into the show's production.
**Production**
- How is it produced?
- How are creators acknowledged?
- What research did the authors do?
You description of how Hart Hanson and Barry Josephson met to discuss the show and the later inclusion of Kathy Reichs is a good way to show how the interpersonal tensions that arise in the creation of a television series.
I like how you show that the ecology of shooting the show in California requires a second film crew in DC. Further, the writing and rehearsals you describe under Activity reveal just how many steps there are in the production process.
**Genre Conventions**
- Identify the genre
- Describe the genre conventions
- Show how these conventions are used.
I like how your Production slide lists *Bones* as "not the average procedural," and then you describe how the dark humor and Angelator are used to separate it from shows like *CSI* and *Law & Order.* Your Ecology slide also incorporates this, revealing how the layout of the sets further helps differentiate *Bones* from other shows.
**Social Activity**
- Describe social and physical distribution
- Discuss cultural reception
In Representation, the cast's interactions with audience members at Comic Con panels and interviews reveals the ongoing interaction which takes place between artists and their audiences.
**Audience - 3pts**
- You identify the intended audience
- You discuss how genre coventions are used to attract that audience
- Your research indicates audience reception.
The Distribution slide does a nice job revealing how the combination of television release, online release through FOX and Hulu, and the choice of veteran actors have helped the show reach wider audiences. In Socialization, the use of the pop culture references in the show strikes me as very interesting, and I like that you point out how it's used to reveal how disconnected from the world Brennan really is.
With the audience, it would be good to know a bit more about how the audience responds to the show. You mentioned that the success of the pilot has led to six seasons, and it would be good to also know how many viewers have watched each season, and if there have been an recurring questions at the Comic Con panels.
This is a very thorough and informative CHAT map! I have only seen one episode of bones, so I liked the first slide because it gave simple background information about the show which is great for people who have never seen it. This CHAT map was full of fun facts about the show. It was interesting to hear that the writers try so hard to be an original crime show and stray away from shows like CSI. It's really cool that you incorporated the fact that they use the angelator. It sounds really cool and its something I did not know before reading your CHAT map. I think the information on when the show aired for each season was unnecessary. We only need to know when it comes on right now. Its really cool that the main character was inspired by a real person, and I think your activity slide was the best one overall. I think your reception slide could have mentioned the fans of the show and how popular it is. This was a good CHAT map, and it makes me want to watch bones because I know all of these fun facts about it!
Congratulations! You're the first hub page I ever visited! I have to say, I was a little intimidated by the amount of description you added, but also impressed with how interesting and knowledgeable this page is. I've never really watched the show Bones, so I didn't exactly know very much about it going in. I think it's great that some of the characters go to the Comic Con to talk about their shows. A lot of the shows I love like Game of Thrones and Firefly speak at the Comic Con, and I think it helps show how much the actors care about audience support. Your slides had just enough information to not overwhelm the reader/listener. I mean, this is pretty damn amazing. There are few tweaks I would suggest for this, but maybe you could get a little more creative with the slide templates to show a change in topic. Just a thought. Additionally, you could probably stand to cut out a few sentences to shorten the piece and maybe spark more interest. For reception, I thought it might be interesting how the audience has changed or evolved over the years the show has been on the air. It might even be good to consider adding critical reception from reputable review sites. Great job Jenna, and keep up the good work. And now I sound like a grade school teacher...
Great job on your CHAT Map! I was impressed by your depth of knowledge of the show; your research seems very thorough. I have never seen a full episode of Bones, but after reading your presentation I almost feel like I have! I like that you included many details about the show of which the average viewer is probably unaware, such as that the main character is based off of a real person or that the Angelator and later Angelatron were used in place of the flashbacks seen in many other crime scene dramas. I also think it was a good idea to highlight the writers’ desire to distinguish Bones from other shows in the same genre and the ways they attempted to do so. From a design standpoint, I liked that each of your slides was very simple and therefore easy to read. I only have a couple criticisms, one of which being that you should have clarified what you meant when you stated that people didn’t like Kathy Reichs and “moved away from her in disgust.” In addition, I feel like sometimes there was too much detail in certain sections and not enough in others. For example, in the socialization category, you could have focused less on the days the show has premiered over the seasons and more on other aspects of socialization such as Bones’s effect on modern culture. But overall, I was very impressed with your map. Great job!
I have never seen the show Bones before, and this CHAT map helped me to learn a lot about the show. I like that the lay out of the slides is consistent, and that the font and font color remain the same throughout. Having less writing on the slides made them easy to follow, and made me curious to read the description paragraphs thoroughly. I think that the descriptions went well with the seven aspects of CHAT. I found it interesting that the show is actually based off of the life of Kathy Reichs. I also think that the picture selections included on the slides went well with what was being talked about, especially in the slide mentioning the Angelator/Angletron. The hub is very detailed; however, at some points, it became difficult for me to keep up with the many different characters and actors being mentioned. Overall, a very effective CHAT map, great job!
Right off the bat I could tell that you really have a passion for this show and it really shows in how well you explained each slide and the amount of detail you gave. Your presentation is well laid out and easy to follow. Each slide is clean and uncluttered While I’ve never seen this show I now have a good idea of what it is about after reading your hub. I liked how you included the important concepts of the show but also interesting facts too. The way you contrasted Bones to other investigating shows was obviously well thought out and shows through in the presentation. Also describing the usual set and location was an interesting addition. In the Representation slide I liked how you included Comic-con information. In my opinion most people see comic con as strictly a “nerd” convention but in reality of types of shows and their actors participate and it is a great fan for them to see the fan base. Some things that I thought could see some improvement were when you mention Kathy Reichs, maybe explain more clearly the problems the actors had with her or why she was chosen and not someone else. Also I think you could include more in the Socialization about the fan base and impact the show has had on popular culture along with how popular culture is used in the show. Other than that, great job!
So I am continuing on from my last post...The only criticism I have is that I am still a little confused about the angelator. Do the characters on the show use it or is it kind of in the form of a flashback that only the audience can see? Also, what is the image you used on the production slide? I'm sure it is something simple that I am just missing, but I just don't know what it is or why it is there. It is just minor details I am confused about but nothing of great proportion! The way in which you presented the slides made them flow very nicely, and I can definitely see the amount of research and effort you put into this project!
Ive never seen Bones before. I love how you had so much passion in your writing. The slides were nice and organized. Although, you didn't include pictures on a few of the slides, and they were too plain. The information under each slide makes the project neat. Also, the fun facts were pretty cool. I especially liked how you analyzed the dark humor in the show. This was a really good project, and definitely informed me on a show that i have not seen before.
Maybe after saying “this can be seen with how Temperance Brennan has changed since the first season”, continue to say something about what she was like in the first season and something about what she is like in the most current season. This way, the readers of your slides will know what you mean by him changing. However, while this was confusing in the first comment under production, you did a very good job showing character growth from the first to the current season in the very last paragraph under reception. It helped me to feel as if I knew what was going on in the show instead of me just reading about the show. You have a great way of describing everything in great detail so that one feels as if he or she really knows what goes on in the show. You have a great way of talking about it that makes the reader feel as if you love what you are writing, so bravo! However, in some places it does get a little bit wordy to where I had to go back and read it again to make sure I understood what was being said. I like how the slides were a little darker to go with the dark feel of the show, like the dark sense of humor that you described as well. Sometimes, though, I felt as if the pictures were not utilized to their best ability to attract the eye. For example, on one slide there are two pictures overlapping which could appear messy, and on another there are no pictures at all.
Great job on your CHAT map! I could tell that you really enjoy this show and put in a lot of time and effort to make this CHAT map perfect. I like how you include lot of background information and I found it all very interesting! You have very detailed descriptions but it would have been nice if you could summarize them a little more so that you don’t lose the attention of the reader. I enjoyed all the pictures you included on the slides because they gained my attention but I think you should have included at least one picture on every slide to add character. I do feel as though you could be more creative with the layout and colors included in the PowerPoint, at times I did feel it was a bit dull and although you had great information it would have been nice to see a little more creativeness. I really enjoyed how you talked about the character development, I found it very interesting and I could really tell that you did your research and knew what you were talking about! Overall, I think you did a very good job
Hello! Great work on the chat map. its pretty clear that you must love this show! you put in so much effort. Although i've never seen this show before i get a pretty good idea what it's about now. all of your summaries are so in depth. Some of the slides were a little vauge when it came to the bullet points so i kept having to go back and check the summaries to match things up. Few grammar/capitalization minor things also. The representation slide was one of the best i think because it showed the humor to it. You stated how it has 'dark humor' and this helps us understand how the audience revieves the show. Anyways, wonderful job on your very first chat map
-Jenn
Great job on this CHAT map slide show! I think you did a great job of making the slides presentable and a useful tool for following along with your more details notes. Not to mention that the slides are very attractive and attention grabbing. I agree with everyone else, that after reading this hub I am very interested in looking into this show, which I never would have considered until now! It really does seem that you have either a lot of background knowledge, or have done a good job researching to help you know all about the production and other factors of this show. I cannot find any significant flaws in your CHAT map. Overall, you did a great job of representing all aspects of the show and making it an appealing thing to read and learn about. Your slides look very professional and aren’t too overwhelming, which they could have been had too many pictures been added. If I had to choose something to critic, I’d advise that the information be cut down. It was very interesting to read, however it was a little bit overwhelming. But besides that fact, everything was extremely well done and I can tell you put a lot of thought into it!
This CHAT map looks great! The information is very thorough while the Power Point slides are concise and appealing to the eye. I personally have never seen Bones, but have heard good things from friends that are avid watchers of the crime show. I like how you compared Bones to other crime shows since there are so many being aired today. It is interesting to see how there are different aspects that set this show apart from others. I know from being in COM 110 with you that you are majoring in Anthropology so I think it is pretty cool that this show is something that you are interested in. I think that this CHAT map, though very thorough, may have contained a little too much information. The great detail would be beneficial to an audience who is familiar with the characters or show, but to someone like me who has not seen this television series, it was confusing. More labeled visual aids pertaining to the cast may have been able to better present the information to the audience. Overall, this was a great presentation and with a few minor changes will be an extremely effective way to present your favorite TV series.
I have never personally seen an episode of Bones, but after viewing this CHAT map I think I’m definitely going to give this show a try. I like how you gave a brief but to the point description about what the show was about so people like me who have never seen it have some idea about the main gist of it. I found it interesting that this show wanted to be different by not using flashbacks and make use of the Angelator. The feature must have been a much liked factor of the show as you stated that they replaced it with the Angelatron which is an upgraded version of the Angelator. You really showed how this show is much different than other crime shows through dark humor and major character development. Some criticism that I have is that you only really gave background information on the main character; I would have liked to have seen some background information on some of the other major characters in the series instead of just the main character. Another suggestion, I noticed that some of your slides don’t have pictures on them and makes them look kind of plain. I would maybe add a photo related to the current aspect of the CHAT map on these slides. Other than a few minor spelling mistakes, I thought you did an awesome job on this CHAT map. It was very informative but remained straight to the point. It was very interesting and makes me want to watch an episode to see what it’s like.
Something that I really appreciated was the background and history of the show. I need to admit right off the bat that I have never seen this show. While I have seen commercials for it and can give basic inferences about its plotline, your descriptions clarified a lot. I was also surprised at how greatly this show has influenced modern culture and reaches such a broad fan-base (as you demonstrated from your “Comic Con” description). However, I believe that a bit more information about how it the fan-base has grown would be ideal. I think you included a lot of information that might have interested even the most loyal fans! After all, who would have known that a mainstream show wasn’t entirely filmed on a Hollywood soundstage? That really surprised me! However, at first glance, the large descriptions look a bit intimidating. Perhaps picking a few pieces of information to cut out would make it a bit easier for the reader to move through the presentation. No matter what could have been fixed, your passion for the show and your excellent writing was what shined through, and no one can doubt the quality of your facts. Overall, you definitely ended up with an effective and consistent project.
Well done on the details in your CHAT map. I really like the amount of information you’ve provided for each of your images. It really shows that you care about your topic. I haven’t seen the show before, so I felt your introduction slide really helped me to understand what you were going to be talking about. My favorite slide is your production slide. It’s very detailed, and it gives a great look into what the creator was trying to accomplish. The only problem that I am finding in your CHAT map—if it’s even a problem—is that I found your comments to be more of a non-fiction style of writing. I don’t completely understand the assignment, so I’m not exactly sure if the comments should be more like commentary or not. Personally, I would have enjoyed reading this even more if it was written more so as a dialogue. However, like I said, I am not completely sure of what is required by the assignment. It is highly likely that you are on the right track and I am just fooling myself. Either way, great job on the content. Perhaps some of your slides could improve through different color schemes and layouts. The red titles on the slides are not difficult to read, but they are not pleasant to look at. Once again, well done on your content. It’s a great CHAT map.

This is very thorough and well thought through! I personally have only seen a couple of episodes of Bones, but I can definitely see how it differs from other crime shows. I never knew that Brennan's character is based off of a real person and her experiences. I also never knew that the show was actually shot in California. When I first heard about it, I thought it was just going to be another crime show such as CSI, but now I can tell how the producers and writers worked so hard to make the show different than you would expect. Great job on your CHAT map!
